Omega Star System
Omega Organization
(top)

Omega is a well-organized alliance. We use a Team system so all members easily know where they belong. This, along with the structure of our leaders and ministers, makes it simple to get things accomplished in Omega and easy to contact the right person to take care of any problem you may have. This is a description of the way members are organized around here.

Leaders
Omega has a rotating leader system.  Every reset a trainee leader is chosen, and the current leader moves to the elder leader/advisor position.  The former trainee is moved to leader position and the former elder leader/advisor has a choice of remaining a minister of Omega or dropping to member level.  We have three leaders. Silence  is the main leader, and Mroc is the junior head.  The three leaders are in charge of the politics of Omega and oversee everything, making sure all runs smoothly.  Much of the day-to-day business of Omega is handled by the ministers. Usually, if you have any kind of problem or question, one of the ministers can help you.

Ministers
Alicia, Jacobus, Pteppic and Shantara

These are the big shots (or so they like to think) that help Omega run smoothly on a daily basis. They take care of almost every aspect of Omega: foreign relations, recruiting, propaganda - you name it. From time to time, they make important decisions about how Omega operates. If you have a question about anything, these guys can almost always help you out.

Team Leaders
007, Mortimus, Holyrith, Zygotic and Shadowgallery

Omega is split into Teams, which is explained in the next section. The  team leaders above are in charge of these groups. These people are great sources of advice for your country and are happy to help - just ask!

Members
This is everyone else - the true core of Omega. The members are just as important as the leaders, and have the same privileges and duties. Without a good group of members, Omega would be nothing - these guys are what makes Omega tick.
Omega Teams
(top)

Teams
The Omega is split into teams.  Members are placed into teams they sign up for a few days before the start of the reset.  The teams all have a goal or theme to follow.  Some may be elite netgaining, getting extremely land fat, or even crazy senseless spamming!  The teams are set up to encourage good member participation. The leader of each team will check on the progress of the members and offer advice whenever needed. All of these teams have their own message board, where important (and not so important) information on a team can be found. Here is a list of the current teams:
ALPHA - Led by Mortimus
Lovely Taem no9 - Led by Holyrith
Crazy Urban Monkeys - Led by 007
PCB - Psycho Chihuahua Brigade - Led by Shadowgallery
THLC - The Happy Little Club - Led by Zygotic

Signing up for a team
Every member of Omega must be a member of one of the teams. To find a team, you must visit the Team Recruitment Board.  Here you can choose to join a team that either openly accepts members, or has criteria that you match.  Once you have decided which team you would like, and have chosen your strategy for the reset, just make a post on that team's recruitment board requesting membership on the team. The team leader should get a hold of you, and make your team membership official.
Communication Within Omega
(top)

Communication between members of Omega is very important - good communication allows important information to pass very quickly through the alliance, and ideas and advice can be shared easily. There are multiple ways that Omega members communicate. These are listed here.

Message Boards
Omega's message boards, found on Omega's site, is our primary way to communicate with all members. Upon becoming a member, you will be given access to these boards. Task boards include places to post for reps and retals, Delta Strikes, or a possible Multi. The Announcements board is very important, and whenever a new post arrives, you should read it immediately - it will contain important information for all Omega members. Also, all Omega's rules are posted in the rules board, which you should read completely as soon as possible. The Private boards are for Omega's members to communicate with each other on a variety of issues - there are places to post jokes, strategy advice and questions, and spam!

Checking the Members board often is recommended. There is usually interesting posts and information there. The Division and Team boards provide a place for the divisions and teams to organize, and you should make it a habit of reading your division and team boards on a regular basis for new instructions. The Omega archives is a place to keep old info, and there are boards to help you find allies in the game. Plus, you can also check out the public board, which anyone can access. Additional information on how to use the boards, such as how to use the smiley faces, can be found by checking out the FAQ found at the top of the boards page. Read all that you can, and don't be afraid to post!

Insite Messages
If you need to get hold of a certain member, you can send them a private message on the Omega site. They will receive this message the next time that they login. To do this, there is a 'Send Private' link at the top of the message boards page. Enter the member's site name that you want to send to, type your message, and send it. Simple as that! If you have a private message waiting, you will notice that the top of the message boards page will tell you how many you have waiting. Follow the 'Check Private' link to check your messages.

ICQ and E-Mail
ICQ is an internet messaging program that most of Omega uses to communicate with each other quickly and personally. Most of you probably have it, but if you don't, we recommend you download it from here. (www.icq.com) If a member has properly updated his (or her) user profile, you can find their ICQ number by clicking on their name beside a post on the message boards. Also, by clicking on 'Members Pages' on the side menu, you can find a listing of all Omega ICQ contacts that have been added so far. Who you add is your choice, but we recommend getting as many Omegans as possible. Most of the veteran members will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and ICQ is a great way to do it. Sometimes, ICQ chat rooms will be used for warchats, but the OmegaMUD is used more lately. If you need an e-mail address for someone, you can find it in the same way as the ICQ numbers.

Omega MUD
The OmegaMUD is a great place to get advice and meet your fellow Omegans. The OmegaMUD is based on a Multi-User-Dungeon, which is a text-based game that can be accessed with a Telnet client. A great client that we recommend is MuckClient, which can be downloaded from here. (www.muckclient.com or www.xcalibur.co.uk) Once you have a client set up, the OmegaMUD can be found at omega.earth-alliance.org, port 2025. When you load the OmegaMUD, you will find yourself in the entry room, which is where most of the Omegans that use the MUD hang out. It's like a chat room - you can get to know other members there, ask for advice, ask for spy ops (there's usually a Delta there), and just have a good time. War chats can be held here, especially since some of Omega's resident coding wizards have integrated Omega's database into the MUD, providing some great tools. Now, from the MUD, you can check a country's status, news, and use an attack simulator. Upon arrival, play around with the commands - they may take a little bit to get used to, but ask another player for a little help, especially with the tools, which are constantly being improved. Please stop by the OmegaMUD frequently, it will really enrich your Omega experience!
Database Usage
(top)

Adding Scores and Status
Its required that you upload your scores screen twice a day (once before you play and once after) and your status screen every day if at all possible. This allows Omega's database to be up to date and chock full of good land grabs. Plus, uploading your status will allow leaders to look at your country during both war and peacetime. Here's how to do it: (copied straight from the rules board)

Netscape:
- Once logged into your 1A country, go to the scores (or search results)/spy ops results page
- Right click in the scores frame and go to "view frame source"
- hit ctrl a (select all)
- hit ctrl c (copy)
- log into the Omega page
- click on "add html" on the side frame
- click inside the big white area and hit ctrl v (paste)
- hit the button at the bottom and that's it!

Internet Explorer:
- Once logged into your 1A country, go to the scores (or search results)/spy ops results page
- Right click in the scores frame and go to "view source"
- go to edit -> select all
- hit ctrl c (copy)
- log into the Omega page
- click on "add html" on the side frame
- click inside the big white area and hit ctrl v (paste)
- hit the button at the bottom and that's it!

Do that daily and you'll be all set! This works with spy ops and country searches too.

Using the Database in OmegaMUD

The OmegaMUD has been cleverly integrated with the database. As long as a leader has raised your access in the MUD, you can use the database tools there. Here is a listing of the commands:

scan 1234 - will give you the latest status report for country number 1234, if one has been uploaded. For Omega countries, you can also use names, such as scan Torch. This works for the other functions as well.

check 1234 - will give you news for this country from the last 24 hours.

fullcheck 1234 - will show all news in the database for this country.

grab 1234 - this will run the status of this country through an attack simulator and will show an estimate of what will be needed to break the countries defenses in an attack. The simulator takes into account the country's tech and assumes allies, but does not take into account your tech, government, or offensive allies. You can also use grab 1234 by Roach or grab 1234 by 4321

whoplays 1234 - this works only for Omega countries. This will tell you what member plays this country.

list omega - this lists all the country names in the alliance tag you choose.

These are the basic and most used commands used in the OmegaMUD.  For further commands type 'earth' for the full list.  If you have any trouble using these tools, just ask fellow members in the MUD, as they will be happy to assist!

Gamerstown Access
The Omega leaders have recently gained us access to Gamerstown and its database. Gamerstown is another excellent database to use when searching for land grabs, as it is contributed to by many alliances. However, spy ops and status reports cannot be found there. In order to use the Gamerstown DB, use the "GT Grab" link on the side menu of Omega's site. You will need a login, which you can create by contacting a leader with admin access. Once logged in, you can use all of Gamerstown's tools. Also, Omega's old message boards were restored, for history's sake, for you all to view. Most of the posts are from the WWIII era. You can view all the boards there for some info on Omega history.
Omega Policies
(top)

This section will cover a few of the most pertinent rules and policies of Omega that you will need to know for the day-to-day operation of your country. However, not all of Omega's rules are covered here. Please run through the rules board on Omega's site for a complete run-down of all our policies. Also, if you are in a situation where you are unsure about a policy, please contact a leader before taking any action. Most of these rules are pretty clear-cut and are easy to follow - they are in place to make Omega the best it can be! Many of these rules are copied directly as they appear on the rules board. Now, on to the meat and potatoes!

Retal Policies
Most of Omega's retal rules can be found on the NAP/FARM page. For regular land grabs, Omegans are entitled to a 1:1 retal. You can take the retal yourself, if you want, as long as it is within 72 hours of the original hit, and it is only a SS or PS. Harmful spy ops, missiles, and specialty attacks are not allowed for retals. If you are hit by the same country more than once, the amount of retals available to you will increase with each attack - 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, etc. Please send a message with your retals, stating that your attack was a retal for an attack on your country.

If you cannot take the retal yourself, go to http://omega.earth-alliance.org/boards/retals. Click the Request Retal link on the side, then put the news of the attack from your country's recent news into the space provided and fill in the Number of retals space with the amount of retals required (If you aren't sure on the amount of retals, contact one of our Ministers) . If you can do a country search on the attacker, put that in there as well, and if you uploaded a spy op on the country, post about that too. After that is posted, the retal is out of your hands, and another Omega member will take the retal.

If you decide to take a retal that is on the retal request system, you need to post that you are claiming the retal as soon as you decide to take it. i.e. before you make the attack. However, there is no reserving retals - once you claim a retal, you have 15 minutes to make the attack, or another Omegan would be able to take it. If you can't make the attack in 15 minutes, do not claim it. After the attack is complete, copy and paste the results of the attack, whether it succeeded or not, and post the results of the strike on the retal thread. Please send a message to the country stating that it was a retal for Omega.

Also be aware that if you land grab a country, you may get retalled. If you get retalled once by that country or a member of its alliance, you will have to accept it and move on. However, we do not accept more than 1:1 retals, missiles, specialty attacks, or harmful spy ops for retals - if this happens, post on the Reparations board or Kill board, depending on the situation.

Reparation Policies
You may be entitled to reparations from another country if:

-You get hit by an NAP or FDP
-You get hit by the same country more than once
-You get hit by a missile, harmful spy op, or specialty attack
-You get retalled for a retal

If one of these situations occurs, post the news of the attacks in a new thread on the Reparations board. One of our ministers will try to contact the offending country's alliance and work out reparations for you. Depending on the time of the reset, reps can be anywhere from 50-450 tanks per acre. Once reps are worked out, the country will send you a trade alliance offer, and send you the reps that you deserve. If reps are agreed to, but never sent, post that information on the reps board as well.

Sometimes, however, with smaller alliances or countries, reps cannot be worked out. It is unfortunate when this happens, but there is nothing that can be done about it. In this case, a 2:1, 3:1, etc. retal may be assigned, or the country may be put on the kill list, depending on the situation.

If a situation ever arises where you need to pay reparations to another country, a leader will contact you with the details. You will need to begin to pay reps within 72 hours, or other actions may be taken. Hopefully, this won't happen!

Land grabbing Guidelines
There are a few rules to land grabbing that help keep you from making risky grabs or paying reps.

You cannot Land grab a country from an alliance that is NAP or FDP or DNH with Omega. And it goes without saying that you cannot grab fellow Omegans.

You cannot Land grab a country that has previously been grabbed by an Omega country in the last 24 Hours. No Exceptions unless of course the country involved is on the FARM list. So, know that you need to check the news on all of your potential targets before you make the grab.

You cannot land grab a country more then once. No Double Taps. Unless of course the country involved is on the FARM list.

You cannot Land grab the same country over multiple days. For example: Hitting the same country after waiting for 24 hours from the last time you grabbed that country.

You cannot declare war on a country in order to land grab it.

You cannot re-attempt a land grab if you failed it. For example: You failed an SS on a country. You regain readiness for a couple turns. You want to PS that country to see if you can beat it. This is not allowed.

You cannot grab a country of an alliance that is at war with another alliance. This shall apply to mostly bigger alliances since it is almost impossible to keep track of the littler clan wars. The alliances at WAR currently will usually be posted on the NAP page.

You should not grab countries from alliances that regularly retaliate on land grabs. These alliances are noted on the risky grab section of the NAP page.

You should not grab countries from the same alliance on a regular basis. Try rotating your grabs around. Smaller alliances are usually best to grab.

You should send a message with your land grabs stating that it was a land grab. This, however, is optional and up to the individual member. Sometimes, it will prevent a suicide attempt or something of the like.

NAP Policies
Omega does have formal relations with many of the high-profile alliances in this game - this includes NAPs and FDPs. You can find the listing of these alliances on the NAP/FARM page. You should take a look a this page and learn who we are allied with.

Of course, hitting any of these allied countries is not acceptable. Whether or not you believe you will get more land in the end after a retal, you still cannot hit an NAP, DNH, or FDP. If we think that someone has violated an NAP intentionally we reserve the right to tell that alliance to either retaliate 2 for 1, or to keep hitting until they have gotten the land back. If those options are not available, then a very substantial amount of reps will be paid back to the country.

If you get hit by a NAP, post the news of the hit on the Reparations board. One of our leaders will try to see to it that you are adequately compensated for the breach of alliance.

Also, sometimes an alliance can be placed on DNH by a leader. Among other reasons, this often happens because Omega has been hitting them a lot in a short amount of time. DNH alliances will be announced on the Announcements board and placed on the NAP/FARM page. DNH alliances fall under the same rules as NAP and FDP.

War Activity Policies
Omega has an active war policy. When the alliance is under alert for war or multi attacks, all members are required to prepare their countries and fully participate in the war, regardless of their division. During war, OMEGA, ALPHA, and DELTA divisions fight equally. This helps to get rid of enemies fast and finish wars quickly and efficiently. There are members that will be checking to make sure that all Omegans are doing this in wartime.

During war, Omega leaders organize attack waves, where many Omegans make attacks at once. These are usually coordinated through chats in ICQ or the OmegaMUD. It is very important that you participate in these, as they will give you targets to hit and help us fight with utmost efficiency. Aside from these guidelines, any additional wartime orders may be be given to you by leaders, which need to be followed as well, of course. Omega isn't an outwardly aggressive alliance usually, but when we fight, we fight hard!

There are a couple alert statuses that Omega can be put into by the leaders. These alerts will always be posted on the Announcements board. Here is an explanation of the alerts:

Normal: (green status) Play turns as normal. It is recommended that everyone should log out with no fewer then 10 Turns per day, unless you know for certain that you will not be playing the next day (And hence lose turns). This is due to several reasons...A. Sudden Conflict, B. Multi trouble. This is your option mind you, but one that's most prudent (And that doesn't hurt in the long run really).

Cautious Status: (yellow alert) Something is afoot. It could be a big conflict involving or not involving our allies, or perhaps possible small multi trouble. Do not log out, under any circumstances, with less than 20 turns. Also, start preparing your country for possible conflict by shoring up your vulnerabilities so that you are weak in no one area, and if you see cheap oil start stockpiling up on it (since we all know what happens to the price of oil during a conflict). If you weren't doing so already, you should upload your country status daily so that leaders have a good idea of what forces you have.

Full War Footing: (red alert) Do not play any turns, unless you know you are going to lose those turns (i.e. You will not be able to log on for 12 hours so you play 20 turns, playing down to 55 turns). This is not often called, but when it is you can be sure that there will be a darned good reason for it. Usually a Full War Footing Advisory (red Alert) will contain further instructions such as, for example, stocking up on a particular unit. In this situation you NEED cheap oil, so if you see any be sure to get it. And make sure your economy is viable to support your country through at least a couple weeks worth of fighting. And you MUST upload your country status daily.

Attack Simulator
Although the attack sim in the MUD is an excellent tool to use when land grabbing, Jacobus kindly constructed a java-based attack sim to use as well. The sim allows you to enter more detailed information about your own country, including government, tech levels, and allies. To find the sim, go to http://omega.earth-alliance.org/boards/retals/attacksim.php3. Its another one of the great tools available to us Omegans. (This feature can only be accessed when logged into the Omega boards.)

Members Pages
AMOS has kindly set up member pages for us, which allows us to learn a little bit more about our fellow Omegans. To see the member pages, just choose the "Members Pages" link on the side menu. Here, you can find all you wanted to know and more about those members who have chosen to submit a page to the collection. We encourage you to add yourself as well! An ICQ contact list of Omegans can be found here too. You should visit this page right away so you can start talking to your fellow Omegans. Yay AMOS!

Omega Star System
On the message boards, you may notice some tiny Omega symbols under some of the members' names. If you're wondering how those crazy things got there, or what they are for, we've got your answer right here. The Omega symbols are our way of recognizing members who have been in Omega for multiple reset. Each symbol represents one completed reset as an Omegan. Whether you joined Omega at the beginning of a reset, or halfway through, if you finish the reset as an Omegan, you qualify to add one of these symbols to your name. If and when you qualify, and would like to add this, you will need to edit your User Profile. There is a field where you can enter a url address to add a picture under your name when you post. Just add the address - http://omega.earth-alliance.org/omegas/1omega.gif - and that will give you one star. You can substitute 2omega.gif for 2 symbol and so forth.
